Spitz Love

Photography

Today, Kodachrome the Dog, my beloved 3 year old Japanese Spitz, got to go to the dog park for the first time for a play date with Mahina the Shiba Inu! Mahina’s parents Addison and Gina are fellow photographers, geeks, and Spitz-type lovers, so it was about time we hung out with our fuzzy babies.  Herding Spitzes is like herding cats, but hopefully this will be the first of many times we get these “cousins” together to play and photograph.

Koda’s Bathtime Adventures

Photography

As many of you know, Ed and I are blessed to have the most wonderful dog in the world – our 2 year old Japanese Spitz, Kodachrome. We often brag that her only downside is the excessive amounts of white fur that plague our house and wardrobes (wearing our photographer-blacks means lint rollers are kept everywhere!), because she stays very clean on her own, despite being a white dog. However, there are times when she manages to somehow get herself dirty enough to require a bath, and so it’s off to the laundry room sink for her! Here are photos from today’s bath time, and I hope they amuse you as much as they amuse me – my dog makes the best expressions!

Dramatic punishment lighting.

Priceless expression of woe and resentment.

Sad dog is sad.

Happy Halloween!

Photography

Happy Halloween from Koda the Tamago Sushi!

But if you really want to know what Koda thinks of her costume…:

“Mom, this costume sucks!”

“I should have gone as something SCARY!”

Sorry Koda, maybe next year!

PS. Here’s Koda’s 2009 ‘ghost’ costume!

Seize The Moment

Photography

I was about to head for bed this morning (since Ed and I exist on a weekday night schedule for the most part) when I decided to check if my dear husband had remembered to take the trash to the curb on his way to work last night. Not only had he done his husband-ly duty, but there was a spectacular double rainbow over our backyard. I ran around the house looking for my camera before taking Koda outside to watch it as it quickly faded away. I’m glad I seized that moment to get these shots!

Now it’s really time for bed!

Photo of the Day – Kodachrome x2

Photography

Today, Kodak announced that they will no longer be making Kodachrome film. But it will live on forever, partly in Koda’s name, partly in Paul Simon’s song, and as a legend amongst photographers.  I’ve never shot Kodachrome film myself, because by the time I was into photography it was far too expensive to buy and process for it to be wasted on me, but I do have this roll of Kodachrome 64 that I will keep as a memento of a different era in photography.

This photo was processed with the demo version of Alien Skin’s Exposure 2, set to Kodachrome 64. It’s unfortunate that this filter will be a ghost of film past, but at least it’s something?
