2012 Perseid Meteor Shower

Adventures, Photography

Buy A Print

This shot of with a tiny streak is my lone halfway-decent meteor shot from our outing last night during the peak of the 2012 Perseid Meteor Shower. Although we saw several spectacular meteors streak across the sky above our heads, my camera was rarely pointed at the right place, but that’s all right with me, because it was a great time hanging out with friends old and new.

From Here To Eternity…

Photography

Making more of an effort to go out and shoot at night due to increased inspiration. This one is dedicated to my husband, Ed, who encouraged me to take this shot even though I was being stubborn about the lack of Milky Way in the photo. ;)

Shot at the beach where the famous kiss scene in From Here To Eternity took place.

December 10th, 2011 Lunar Eclipse

Photography

Very last-minute photos of tonight’s total lunar eclipse as seen from Honolulu, Hawaii. I was totally unprepared so only had my 70-200mm f2.8L IS to shoot close-ups (most of which are cropped), and used a 24-105 f4L for the wide shots. I also woke up right at 4am after an hour-long nap waiting for the moon to reach totality, so I spent the first fifteen minutes of shooting forgetting to set my camera to mirror lock. Oh well! By 2014, when the next total lunar eclipse is supposed to happen, maybe I will have a 400mm+ lens by then!

Chasing Lightning

Photography

The storm continued today, and as I watched it go, I wondered how I would top last night’s images. I drove around through the pouring rain, worried, got a burger, tweeted, came back home, cursed the sky, tried to take photos outside my house between raindrops, got back in my car, drove some more, and finally went to my ‘secret spot’ just as the rain subsided, and managed to get ‘the shot’ (available here as a print to purchase!):

Now I’m satisfied. Here are the less epic photos:

…still sad I missed the water spout though.

Electrified Skies

Photography

Posted a preview of last night’s lightning show on my NonstopHonolulu blog, and here are the rest of them.  I have two available as art prints here and here. I also obviously played with the color in a few of them, but I loved the apocalyptic feel. Enjoy!

Night Of The Super Moon

Photography

Tonight, we braved the wind, rain, and freezing temperatures up on Haleakala to capture the biggest full moon in 18 years, known as the “super moon”.  Although we missed the moon rise due to bad weather, once the bright moonlight broke through the clouds I managed to capture a ‘moonbow’ at the summit!  Here are some of my photos from tonight:

Interlude: The Storm Cometh

Photography

I didn’t get any Hawaii lightning photos last night, but check out these by friend Michael Carino on Maui and friend Lyndon Quelnan on Oahu. I did, however, capture a couple of shots of the moody sky while babysitting and later running errands.

Interlude – Harbour Colours

Photography

(So much beauty it deserves the extra ‘u’s.)

I’ve been fortunate to catch gorgeous sunsets lately. These didn’t make the cut as my daily photo, as the one I chose features a spontaneous long-exposure done through careful bracing against the rail.
